“Legislation and Practice vs. Safety When Working with Refrigerants” Training

News

On 26 June 2024, a free specialist training session entitled “Legislation and Practice vs. Safety When Working with Refrigerants” was held in Lublin, organised by Eko-Sanit and the PROZON Climate Protection Foundation.

The training began with a lecture delivered by Marlena Ziółkowska, Head of the Environmental Law Department at PROZON, who provided a detailed overview of the key legal regulations affecting the refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) industry. Particular attention was paid to the interpretation of new regulations that have a significant impact on day-to-day professional practice. Participants actively asked questions and took part in discussion, which helped to deepen understanding of the topics presented.

Paweł Mitkowski, Head of Sales at PROZON, then presented the issues surrounding illegal trade in refrigerants. Topics covered included refrigerant emissions from smuggling, the trade in prohibited HFC containers, and the low level of awareness among the RAC industry and the general public regarding illegal HFCs. The need for educational initiatives and stricter enforcement to combat this problem was highlighted.

In the following session, Paweł Mitkowski focused on safety when working with alternative refrigerants. He emphasised the importance of properly preparing the work environment and adhering to safety procedures. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the latest methods and tools used in this field.

A presentation was also delivered by Mariusz Jaszczuk, who introduced the company Eko-Sanit, discussing their products and services related to the refrigeration industry. The presentation was interactive, and participants were able to ask questions about the company’s offering.

After the lunch break, Paweł Mitkowski led a practical training session on safety when working with alternative refrigerants, which covered:

  • refrigerant testing using a gas analyser,
  • workstation preparation and activity documentation,
  • labelling of portable containers, colour coding and warning labels,
  • safe refrigerant recovery and equipment charging.

During this part of the training, participants had the opportunity to apply their newly acquired knowledge in practice. The hands-on exercises generated considerable interest, and participants engaged enthusiastically in the tasks.

Thanks to the fruitful collaboration between Eko-Sanit and the PROZON Climate Protection Foundation, the training was a great success. The combination of theoretical and practical elements allowed participants to gain a fuller understanding of the topics discussed.

Several suggestions for future topics were also put forward, reflecting the appetite for continued learning in this field. We hope that the planned future training sessions will also prove a valuable opportunity to develop your skills and expand the knowledge needed to work in the industry.
